Nestle, East Midlands Gateway

This flagship digital warehouse and technology laboratory at the SEGRO East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park was designed for Nestle and their partners XPO Logistics.

The distribution centre incorporates state of the art automation and advanced distribution management systems on multiple mezzanine levels while also providing high quality office facilities, showcase areas and demonstration platforms for visitors to be shown the advanced features of the automation systems.

The distribution centre is split into two structures, the high bay that houses a 30m tall racking system with automated cranes and low bay structure that completes the packing and final route to the dock loading bays. A monorail system moves products from storage to distribution.

Internally, a large atrium space has been created in the centre of the office facilities that provide natural light to surrounding open plan offices and breakout areas.

The prominence of this building and aspirations of the occupier provided us with an opportunity to create a bold design that visually integrates the distribution centre with office and showcase facilities.
