Moulton Primary School
The existing school was enlarged from 2FE to 3FE to meet demand driven by the expanding urban area. The new block arranged 9 classrooms over 3 storeys with alteration work in the existing school converting redundant classrooms into a small hall, library/ICT suite and other facilities.
Existing constraints played a key role in design development, in particular addressing the split level sloping site and also locating the extension so as not to have a detrimental impact on areas of playground and sports field. The new block was staggered in plan in response to the site boundary.
The construction was undertaken around an active school and a phased construction process was required. The school is within the historic centre of Moulton, which restricted construction vehicle access so that a temporary access road was constructed through neighbouring land, which required intricate planning and implementation on site.
