Prince William School
The overall project comprises of a new Science block, expansion to the Sports Hall, Theatre, Administration block and general site-wide improvements.
The primary brief and driver for the scheme was to accommodate additional students transferring from years 7 & 8 of the feeder schools in the local area, following a change by the local education authority to the Lower, Middle & Upper School system.
The new building was conceived as a pinwheel of classrooms around a central atrium/circulation space, affording good communication links, a sense of openness and good daylighting.
‘Science on Show’ was a key phrase picked up from the school. We have used the design of the building to communicate the activity both physically and emotionally. Green roofs, solar panels, solar shading, air-source heat pumps and daylighting factors were all considered as part of the building development.
We have been involved since the outset, developing Feasibility plans, taking this forward through every stage of the design process.
We completed the Early Phase works on time, realised against a very tight timescale.
