Decathlon
The development in Brackmills is on a site on the rural fringe of the industrial area and includes two buildings. The main building of 400,500 sqft is for occupier Decathlon, retailer of sports clothing and equipment. As a result the standard distribution warehouse is adapted to have a retail collection point and all-weather sports pitches for staff to enjoy their sport.
Located on the rural edge of Northampton, the site was sensitive and so was enclosed by a huge landscaped bund, to protect adjoining villages from visual and noise intrusion. The detail design also responded to this context, with yards shielded by the buildings and the buildings softened by using horizontal colour bands and curved roof silhouettes.
On the adjoining site a building of 128,000ft2 repeats the design of the Decathlon building, and was let to Dascher, who occupy a building we also designed, on the neighbouring site.
