Harrington Junior School
The project involved the design and construction of a new one-form entry Junior school building comprising 6 classrooms, 3 study group rooms, food technology rooms, multipurpose hall, kitchen, canteen, library and staff accommodation. The new school building is designed to meet modern day space standards as set out within Building Bulletin 103. All teaching areas are spacious, naturally lit and are connected onto the playground.
All classrooms are connected via a generously proportioned corridor featuring numerous rooflights, flooding circulation spaces with natural light.
Externally the selected material palette echoes and emphasises Harrington Junior School’s red colour scheme. Architecturally this has been incorporated within the building design using an array of multi-tonal red cladding panels featured on the centrally positioned multi use hall. This creates a focal point and wayfinding beacon on approach along the school driveway. Natural grey fibre cement cladding panels and masonry facade contrast and compliment the accent red colour scheme.
