FAAM, Cranfield University
The project provided two storey offices on a corner site bounded by existing buildings and trees, with the key occupier being FAAM (Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements).
The first floor offices for FAAM act as admin and briefing base for the staff to prepare for and report on flights from Cranfield Airport. Therefore awareness of weather was a key design driver, and the office space had plenty of windows in wall and roof, and a large feature window to a corner stair tower. This tower affords access to the roof, where FAAM could keep instruments.
We incorporated design requirements from various bodies including Cranfield University, FAAM, NERC (part funders) and The Met Office.
