Stuart Hall Building, The Open University
The commission as Project Managers and Architects was won through the OJEU process. The 4 storey building features an open plan office, curved to push the envelope to the site boundary, with entrances at each end, and meeting rooms and support spaces contained within a series of brightly coloured towers. The angular shapes of the towers are defined by views and by site constraints of pedestrian routes and mature trees.
The main entrance atrium void is clad in birch, extending full height to culminate in access to the roof garden, with parapets extending upwards to enclose rooftop work and leisure spaces.
The project was completed within 16 months of appointment.
